Intro: This site is dedicated to the best (in my opinion) of all the Amateur Radio PC software out there for computer aided Radio Amateurs. Links are provided to my favourites with a short review of why I think they're the best out there.
Radio Control and Data mode ProgramsHam Radio Deluxe (HRD) - Free registration
I love HRD because it gives an excellent radio control interface, which certainly works great with my Icom 706 Mk2G. The on screen settings are easily customised, as is the specification of frequencies and layout. It has a great bandscope for sweeping a band and loads more features. Datamodes supported include various bpsk, qpsk, mt63 and olivia (v4.0 now includes Digital Mode program Digital Master 780).
MixW - Free 15-day trial
MixW (v2.18) supports almost all the datamodes I have come across. It includes HF/VHF Packet, bpsk, qpsk, Amtor (rx), Hell, Throb, FAX(rx), SSTV and many more. Additional .dll files are available to support Olivia and q15x25. NCDXF/IARU Beacons are available too, a neat feature as radio control can also be configured.
WSJT - Free
WSJT (v5.9.7) is great for weak signal work copying some 10db down on an
equivalent cw signal. It includes some intriguing modes like JT65 for amateur
earth-moon-earth communications, FSK441 mode design for high speed meteor
scatter and JT6M for 6m meteor / tropo scatter. I always find it amazing to
copy signals on screen that you can't hear in the noise! Now MAP65 program works with
Linrad to show JT65 signals in SDR passband - great!
Weather Satellite Reception
Wxtoimg - freeware many features enabled
APT and WEFAX satellite signals can be decoded using the audio from your rig and your normal computer soundcard. The quality of the images is not as good as with more expensive dedicated hardware but is still fascinating. It also supports an auto record feature which enables auto start/stop with varied parameters as the chosen satellite goes over. Now Version 2.8.14-c
